Coach Jodi has an extensive history with WST. She swam for WST from the time she was 7 years old through high school. For all four of her college years she swam for Washington & Lee University as a butterflyer and distance freestyler. Coach Jodi was the head coach of WST from 1992-1995 and 1996-1999. She also coached the Watauga High School women's team during the 2003-2004 season. She has been the director of the Wellness Center for the past 11 years, and loves running, swimming, and cycling. Her daughter, Kimberly, swims for WST and Coach Jodi is thrilled to discover that Kimberly loves swimming too! Coach Jodi joined the WST coaching staff in September 2006 as a substitute coach.

I have been coaching the blue gills and sea turtles since October 2005.  I have enjoyed working with our younger swimmers and teaching them about competitive swimming.  They are always full of energy and eager to learn.  Learning to swim at age 5, I have enjoyed being in the water ever since.  I swam competitively with SAC as a young swimmer, and then swam for Kings Mountain High School as a teenager.  As an adult, I have swum with the local master’s competitive team.  My favorite strokes are backstroke and butterfly.

I came to Boone in 2001 to attend ASU and met my husband, Robert, while in college.  I currently teach PE swim classes at ASU and I do the office work for Robert’s business, Solid Ground Grading.  We enjoy the outdoors and staying fit together.

I live in Ashe County with my beautiful wife Ashley and two cool kids named Noah and Owen.  When I'm not at the pool coaching I'm probably working on my other passion-making pottery.  I have more than 20 years experience with the sport of swimming.  I enjoy using that experience to come up with practices that are both challenging and fun to complete.  This "out-of-the-box" approach to training has compelled some of the other coaches to label me as the "Fun Coach."

My swimming experience started at age 7 in Wisconsin.  At my first practice I swallowed about 10 gallons of water, lost my goggles in the deep end, and struggled to finish a full lap without stopping numerous times on the lane line.  Despite the rough start, I went back the next day and then swam continuously for the next 15 years in both Wisconsin and Florida.  During that time I fell in love with a sport that has taken me all over the country, introduced me to many life-long friends, and has taught me more life lessons than I can remember.  As a coach of WST my goal is to give back some of that experience, knowledge, and pure joy that I had growing up in the world of swimming.

Some swimming stuff I have done: 5 time Junior national qualifier, Wisconsin junior Olympic state champion, Wisconsin Div 2AA state champion, Florida Div 6AA state champion, NJCAA All-American, 6 Zone Teams, USS Masters National Champion (sounds impressive but there were only 6 guys in my age group)

Teams I've swum for: Verona Aquatic Club, Plantation Swim Team, Broward Seahawks, Broward Community College, Ft. Lauderdale Swim Team

Faye Kelley - Assistant Coach

I started swimming for WST when I was 7 and continued through highschool. I really started to love it during highschool but struggled with a shoulder injury and took a long time to get back into the sport at the intensity that swimming demands. I love butterfly and IM sets and open water races. I started substitute coaching for WST in summer 2010 and have loved working with kids to enjoy the practices and see results at swim meets. I have learned so much about perseverance and hard work through swimming and those skills have carried through into college. I go to Appalachian State University as an exercise science major and am planning to go to physical therapy school afterwards. I've also taught swim lessons for 5 years and love introducing kids to a skill that is so useful and fun.
